Notes for Carl Martin Combs:

Information provided by Mrs. Jones of Moberly, MO

A Carl M. Combs in the 1917 Moberly City Directory, listed as a carpenter living at 117 S. Ault. There was no spouse mentioned. He was listed in the 1920 city directory living with Helen Combs, a widow. The two of them are still listed in the 1920 city directory, so I checked the 1920 Randolph county census and found Helen, age 62; Carl, son, age 35, carpenter; Alice, age 10, granddaughter. (Randolph County, Missouri census, Enumeration District 152, page 3A).

Anyway, back to Moberly - looking back at earlier listings, I found in 1909, 1911, 913 and 1917 Hugh L. Combs and his wife Helen C. living OMITTED. Not all city directories are available, but since Helen was shown as a widow in 1920, I checked an index for the local newspaper for an obit. Hugh L. Combs died June 25, 1917. Helen C. Combs died March 16, 1928.

Carl M. Combs, a former Moberly resident, died at 6 45 o'clock last night at his home in Springfield, Ill. He was 61 years old.

Born on a farm north of Moberly, Mr. Combs lived in Moberly for a number of years, leaving here 15 years ago.

Surviving are his wife and two daughters; three brothers, Thomas Combs and Elliott Combs of Kansas City, and R. M. Combs of Moberly; and a sister, Mrs. Corine McBride of Moberly.
